Local Gas Consumption

The Ministry of Petroleum adopts a wise strategy aiming to expand the utilization of natural gas so as to displace imported liquefied fuels such as diesel & LPG in addition to the growing concern for preserving the environment.

Local Natural Gas Consumption during fiscal year 2008/2009 reached 1399 BCF

Natural Gas Consumption Sectors:

  • Electricity Sector: is the largest gas consuming sector where gas consumption during 2008/2009 has reached 815 BCF representing 55.6% of local natural gas consumption.
  • Industry Sector: Industry sector's (Fertilizer – Cement– Iron & Steel ـ Other industries & Refractories) natural gas consumption reached 427 BCF representing 29.1% of the total local natural gas.
  • Petroleum Sector: Petroleum Sector (Petroleum & Petrochemical Companies – Methanol & Gas derivatives) natural gas consumption reached 176 BCF representing 12% of the total local natural gas consumption.
  • Residential Sector: natural gas consumption has reached 34 BCF representing 2% of total local natural gas consumption.
  • Cars Fueling Sector (CNG): Compressed Natural Gas Consumption has reached 14.4 BCF representing 1% of total local natural gas consumption through 119 Natural Gas fueling stations that are currently in operation and being allocated throughout Egyptian governorates.
