Natural Gas was introduced to Egyptian local market in 1975 when the first natural gas field ABU MADI was put on stream, since then a remarkable progress has been achieved:

Proven gas reserves is 68.2 TCF by 2005/2006

Cumulative gas production till 12/2006 is 1.9 TCF

Total natural gas production has reached 52.2 BCM in 2005/2006 (including gas for export), out of which 34BCM were for local consumption representing 61% of local natural gas consumption to the electricity sector which is the largest gas consuming sector and has reached to 20.8BCM.

Condensate, LPG, Propane and Ethane are extracted from gas stream where Production of condensates achieved highest rates reaching an average of 94 thousands barrels/day and production of propane achieved highest rates reaching and average of 1257 tons/day.

Of course, the success in gasifying the country was not an easy task to achieve, but involved a lot of concerted efforts and planning.

The Egyptian gas industry is willing and determined to cooperate with business partners in the upstream activities, to make use of technology advances and industry trends, and to coordinate with gas markets, in order to effectively participate in global gas industry.
