Major Principles
Establishing natural gas infrastructure

1.   Gas treatment facilities

Several gas gathering and treatment facilities were built over the past 20years, taking into account analysis of gas and prevailing conditions.

Such facilities are currently processing associated gas and free gas to recover butane, propane and ethane.

2.   National Gas Grid

Because of the growing need for natural gas, the national gas grid was expanded to reach a length of 16156 Km of high, medium and low pressure pipelines excluding internal and external connections & distribution facilities to residential and industrial consumers. The grid capacity reached 135MMCMD and is operated through the main control center (NATA) in New Cairo NATA is linked with four branches in Alexandria, Suez, Central Delta and Mokattam, where gas produced from production fields is continuously controlled according consumer requirements.

Information is transferred through fiber optic cables and microwave to guarantee a smooth operation of grid throughout 24 hours, and allow for immediate intervention and trouble shooting in cases of emergency.

Several projects were kicked off to expand the national gas grid and to supply natural gas for the first time to cities and governerates such as:

Taba /Sharm El Sheikh pipeline 22 Km, 20"

Shukeir /Hurghada pipeline 127Km, 24"

Bani Sweif / Abu – Korkas pipeline 150Km, 32"
