Eng. Mohamed Tawila Chairman of Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company EGAS has attended the 19th World Energy Congress that was held in Sydney, Australia, The Theme of the Sydney Congress, "Delivering Sustainability: Opportunities and Challenges for the Energy Industry", moves debate beyond expressions of concern about sustainability.
Eng. Mohamed Tawila presented a paper about "Sustainable Development and Egyptian Natural Gas Market."
Drawing on the wide-ranging discussions of the congress, the World Energy Council draws the following conclusions:
- All energy options must be kept open and no technology should be idolized or demonized
- A larger share of global infrastructure investment must be devoted to energy
- A more pragmatic approach to market reform is emerging
- The reliability of electricity supply is an important priority
- Regional integration of energy supply systems can boost access and energy supply security
- Climate change is a serious global concern
- Technological innovation and deployment is vital
- Research and development must be more strongly and consistently supported than has been the case
- Public trust must be won and retained
- Public understanding and trust starts with youth
The World Energy Council was established in 1923 and has since evolved as world's leading organization for the energy sector as a whole. The Council's activities cover the full spectrum of energy - including coal, oil and natural gas, nuclear, hydro and renewable.
Membership of the World Energy Council comprises more than 90 countries around the world - including most of the largest energy producing and consuming countries and the full spectrum of economies from the highly industrialized, through the transitional to the developing economies
The Mission of the World Energy Council is "to promote the sustainable supply and use of all forms of energy for the greatest benefit of all people".
Through these studies and programs and the Congresses, members of the World Energy Council share information and work together to seek solutions to the challenges facing the world in the sustainable and equitable supply and use of energy and to prepare recommendations, policies and strategies for action
