Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Announces Egypt's Launch of a Major International Bid Round for Investment in Oil and Gas Exploration in 14 Blocks
Eng. Karim Badawi , Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, announced the launch of the 2026 International Bid Round for crude oil and gas exploration, which includes 14 new blocks offered to international and Egyptian companies, in a step aimed at attracting more investments necessary to support local production and achieve the targets of the five-year plan to increase its rates.
This came during a meeting held by the Minister with CEOs and managers of international companies operating in Egypt as investment partners, to review current performance developments in exploration and production, discuss exploration, field development, and production increase plans over the next five years, and present new investment opportunities.
The bid round, for which submissions opened on Tuesday, August 11, includes 8 blocks affiliated to the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) in the Mediterranean Sea, the Nile Delta, and North Sinai, with the deadline for submissions set for December 14, 2026, at 12:00 PM Cairo time, in addition to 6 blocks affiliated to the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) in the Gulf of Suez, Sinai, and the Western Desert, with the deadline for submissions set for November 11, 2026, at 12:00 PM Cairo time.
