Greater Cairo Gas Connection Project

By the year 2012 and in line with the strategy of the Ministry of Petroleum in promoting the utilization of Natural Gas in all sectors, the Greater Cairo Gas Connections project partially funded by the World Bank was completed and 2million residential customers was connected in 28 districts with Natural Gas services. The project was implemented by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and its affiliate Town Gas with the assistance of the World Bank.
An Environmental and socioeconomic Impact Assessment Framework (ESIAF) was prepared according to the Environmental Impact Assessment Guidelines for the oil and gas sector issued by the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) and the relevant Environmental and Social World Bank safeguard policies.
Two public consultation meetings were held in November 2006 and December 2006 as an integral part of the ESIAF. The ESIAF was approved by the EEAA in April 2007.
