 24, July 2025

As part of the sixth pillar of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy—focused on strengthening regional and international cooperation to secure energy resources and maximize the utilization of Egypt’s infrastructure as a regional energy hub—Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held a meeting with Mr. George Papanastasiou, Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry of Cyprus, in the Cypriot capital, Nicosia. The meeting was attended by senior executives from the global energy companies Eni and Total Energies.

The meeting took place within the framework of the Steering Committee for the development of the Cypriot "Cronos" gas field. The current progress of the project was reviewed, with a strong emphasis on adhering to the agreed-upon timelines. The committee also discussed the status of the technical and implementation agreements, which are currently being finalized in preparation for the final investment decision on the field later this year. The objective is to connect the field to Egypt’s infrastructure, including its gas processing and liquefaction facilities, by the target year.

Accompanying the Minister on this official visit were Eng. Yassin Mohamed Ahmed, Executive Managing Director of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS); Engineer Moataz Atef, Undersecretary for the Technical Office and Affairs of the Minister’s Office, and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry; and Dr. Mohamed El-Bagoury, Supervisor of the Central Legal Affairs Department at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
